How ready are companies for the General Data Protection Regulation in force this month?
According to a press release from the IoD, “Only 6 in 10 company directors say they are confident their organisation will be ‘fully compliant’ with new data protection laws”.
According to the report, many businesses are still unprepared for the new changes.
It’s hard to predict the scale of the new regulation – how it will affect marketing and businesses. In fact, the new regulation is sending panic and shock waves across the world of marketing because everyone is beginning to learn more about GDPR and how business will be affected. We’re all beginning to realise how serious it is!
Many are unsure how GDPR will affect them and those whose contact details are found in business databases, likely know even less. The ones who should be concerned are really businesses because they’re the ones who’ll e penalized for not complying. Businesses may also be liable if someone is to challenge their right to hold personal details such as a name, address, telephone number and email. The head of external affairs at the Institute of Directors, Jamie Kerr observed advises that, “with such large penalties for non-compliance, firms must assess what they have to do to avoid falling foul of the legislation, and they must do so soon.”
